The Sheffield Cohousing Network is group of around 100 people with a shared interest in co-housing – housing with an element of the shared, or, to quote from the UK Cohousing Networks site:
“Cohousing communities are intentional communities. They are created and run by their residents. Each household has a self-contained, personal and private home but residents come together to manage their community, share activities, eat together. Cohousing is a way of combating the alienation and isolation many experience today, recreating the neighbourly support of the past. This can happen anywhere, in your street or starting a new community using empty homes or building new..”
Some of those within the group have experience of living in co-housing or co-operatives before, and all are interested in the possibilities offered by co-housing. There are active co-housing groups in Sheffield, both new and well-established (see Current Groups), and the Network exists to share knowledge about approaches, find sites, and allow people to form groups that may want to take on sites.
To keep in touch with each other SCN has a Google Group email list (SheffieldCoHousing). To join SCN (by joining this list) please contact the SCN communications team at SheffieldCohousing@gmail.com.
